Wonderland Crafts FLW-074 Lavender finishes as a standing pot of lavender just under five inches wide, cut around the fan of flower spikes so the silhouette reads as a plant rather than a rectangle. Purple heads spray out in every direction over grey-green stems, sitting in a terracotta pot with a pale rim. It is a counted cross stitch kit on laser-cut plywood — the board comes shaped and drilled, the stitches drop into holes that already exist, and there is no hoop, no stretching and nothing to frame when you are finished.

Working on Plywood

Each spike is only a few stitches wide, and the fixed drilled grid is what keeps them separate — nothing squeezes or spreads the way it can when fabric shifts under tension. The count is 14, ordinary Aida spacing, so even the narrow stems stay easy to follow on the chart. Seventeen shades split roughly between the flowers and the foliage: violet through mauve to near-white on the heads, and several greens for stems that overlap and cross, which is what stops the bunch from flattening into one mass. This is a single-sided design, so the reverse remains open as you stitch, gets covered with the felt or foam supplied, and then the panel slots into the round stand.

Unlike fabric work, the finished piece must stay dry. Do not wash, soak or steam it — plywood warps and the surface tint can stain. Dust with a soft dry brush and keep it away from damp spots such as bathrooms and window sills.

Seventy-one by sixty-three stitches with a finish built into the kit: it stands on a shelf or a dressing table the same evening you complete it. Lavender is a year-round motif rather than a seasonal one, and it suits a Provence-leaning or farmhouse interior — a good small gift for someone who likes the plant but has nowhere sunny to grow it.
