Wonderland Crafts Wooden Cross Stitch Kit FLW-061 – Christmas House on Plywood

Wonderland Crafts FLW-061 Christmas House builds into a three-dimensional house you can hold in your palm — walls, gables and a pitched roof that come together into a closed little building rather than a flat panel. The design is a gingerbread-style cottage: golden walls, green shuttered windows, and roof and eaves picked out in white, red and green beading. It is counted cross stitch and beading on laser-cut plywood: each wall is a separate cut piece with the stitch holes already drilled, so there is no fabric, no hoop and no framing — the panels slot together at the end and the house is finished.

Finished size: 2.56″ × 2.76″ × 2.17″ (6.5 × 7 × 5.5 cm) · Stitch count: 58w × 83h · 14 count · 7 colors · 1171 beads

Working on Plywood

The holes are drilled at a fixed step, so every stitch and every bead lands exactly where the chart puts it and the panels stay square — which matters more here than usual, because the pieces have to meet cleanly when the house goes together. The count is 14, the familiar Aida density, and the same holes take both the floss and the beads. The palette is only seven shades, but the colour in this design comes mostly from the beadwork: over eleven hundred beads cover the roof lattice, the window frames and the trim along every edge, which is what gives the finished house its glassy, iced-gingerbread surface. The design is single-sided; the reverse of each panel ends up on the inside of the assembled house.

Unlike fabric work, the finished piece must stay dry. Do not wash, soak or steam it — plywood warps and the surface tint can stain. Dust with a soft dry brush and keep it away from damp spots such as bathrooms and window sills.

A longer project than a flat ornament because of the beading, but it ends as a solid object that sits on a shelf, a mantel or a windowsill, or hangs on the tree. It is the kind of piece people put out every December, and it makes a good gift for a first Christmas in a new home. Other houses in the series run through the seasons — FLW-062 Spring House, FLW-064 Summer House, FLW-063 Halloween House.
