Wonderland Crafts FLW-059 Halloween Siamese Cat is a three-piece standing scene: the cat, and two carved jack-o'-lanterns that sit in front of him on the engraved base, so the finished thing has depth to it rather than being one flat panel. The cat is a seal-point Siamese in a long coat and a tall crooked hat, pale cream body against dark mask, ears and paws, with those pale blue eyes looking straight out. It is a counted cross stitch kit on laser-cut plywood — the shapes arrive cut and drilled, and there is no hooping, no stretching and nothing to frame afterwards.

Working on Plywood

The step between holes is set by the laser, not by your tension, so the stitches stay square and the shape keeps its outline no matter how long the project sits between sessions. It is worked at 14 count, the same spacing as ordinary Aida, so the holes are easy to pick up by eye. Fifteen shades is what the Siamese colouring needs: the gradient from cream flank into dark seal points takes several close neutrals, and the eyes and the two pumpkins account for the rest. The design is single-sided — the back of each panel stays open while you stitch, and the felt or foam in the kit is trimmed and glued over it before the pieces go into the stand.

Unlike fabric work, the finished piece must stay dry. Do not wash, soak or steam it — plywood warps and the surface tint can stain. Dust with a soft dry brush and keep it away from damp spots such as bathrooms and window sills.

The count is tall and narrow, 46 by 92, split across three separate pieces — which makes it easy to pick up and put down and still see progress. A gift that lands well with Siamese owners specifically, and a piece of October decor that stands up on a shelf instead of needing a nail in the wall.
