Size 24 is slightly thicker and longer than the more common size 26, which makes it a better match for lower-count fabrics — particularly 11 ct and 14 ct Aida, where the larger holes accommodate the wider shaft without distorting the weave. The blunt tip slides between fabric threads without splitting them, keeping stitches clean and the fabric intact. The gold-plated eye adds contrast against the silver shaft, making it easier to spot which end to thread, and provides a smoother surface for the floss to pass through. If you mostly stitch on 16–18 ct Aida or finer, a size 26 needle is the more standard choice — size 24 can feel tight in higher-count fabrics.
