Wonderland Crafts FLW-066 Way Home gives you a small street corner that stands on its own base — three joined townhouses, a carved bench and a bicycle propped at the kerb, all set into a cobbled pavement. The houses are a dusty rose, a soft blue and a warm ochre, each with its own gable, shuttered windows and doorway, with trees rising behind the roofline. It is a counted cross stitch kit on laser-cut plywood: the façade is a single cut panel with the holes already drilled, and the bench, bicycle and paving are separate wooden parts, so nothing is hooped, stretched or framed.

Working on Plywood
All the counting has been done by the laser — the holes sit at a fixed step, so the window rows stay level across the whole façade and the brickwork lines up from one house to the next. The count is 14, the density most stitchers already work at on Aida, which keeps the small architectural detail legible without magnification. Twenty-one shades is the largest palette in this group, and it is what lets three separate buildings sit side by side and still read as three different buildings: each façade has its own set of tones for wall, roof and trim. Single-sided design — the back of the panel is open as you stitch, then faced with the felt or foam from the kit before it goes into the stand.
Unlike fabric work, the finished piece must stay dry. Do not wash, soak or steam it — plywood warps and the surface tint can stain. Dust with a soft dry brush and keep it away from damp spots such as bathrooms and window sills.
Sixty-eight by fifty-nine stitches, and it ends up standing on a bookshelf or a hall console instead of folded away half-done. There is nothing seasonal about it, so it stays out all year. A thoughtful gift for someone who has just moved, or for anyone who likes European street scenes; FLW-067 City Walk and FLW-069 Colorful Facades belong to the same townscape group.
